BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – Could Florida’s Space Coast soon be home to NASA headquarters?
During a press briefing held at the Kennedy Space Center, Governor Ron DeSantis mentioned the prospect of relocating the headquarters from Washington D.C. to Florida.
Governor DeSantis expressed, “I had a discussion with the director before this conference, and there is an inclination to move NASA’s headquarters to KSC. They currently have a substantial building in D.C. that sees little activity. Why not close it down and transfer operations here?”
DeSantis added that with the new administration coming in, he’s hopeful the move will be considered.
The governor made that announcement while speaking about the creation of the Florida University Space Research Consortium.
In a recent development, the Florida University Space Research Consortium welcomed the University of Florida, University of Central Florida, and Embry Riddle University as its charter members. These universities, in collaboration with the Kennedy Space Center, will play a vital role in managing the distribution of NASA research grants as the “official space research entity” of the state.
Presidents from each of the charter universities were also in attendance as well as Lt. Gov. Jeanette Nuñez.
