ORLANDO, Fla – I-4 as “Kessel Run?”

    Grand Canyon as “Sarlacc Pit?”

That’s how Florida Rep. Anna Eskamani is responding to the so-called “Gulf of America” bill that’s making its way through the Florida Legislature.

During an interview on X on Thursday, the individual from Orlando announced that she had submitted an amendment to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico and other landmarks to names inspired by “Star Wars.”

“If we’re renaming things, we might as well go to a galaxy far far away,” said Eskamani.

The individual, a Democrat representing District 42, also posted images of the amendment document for the committee/subcommittee related to HB 575, which includes the proposed new names.

    1. “Gulf of America” as “Gulf of Endor”

    2. “Mississippi River” as “Dagobah Current”

    3. “Grand Canyon” as “Sarlacc Pit”

    4. “Florida Everglades” as “Naboo Marshlands”

    5. “Great Lakes” as “Mon Cala Seas”

    6. “Las Vegas” as “Mos Eisley”

    7. “Alaska” as “Hoth”

    8. “Washington D.C. “ as “Galactic Senate”

    9. “I-4″ as “Kessel Run”

Last week, SB 608 was approved 4-3 during a Senate committee meeting, shortly after a similar bill (HB 575) was approved in a House committee.

If approved, the bill will take effect on July 1.

This morning, there will be a discussion on renaming the “Gulf of Mexico” to “Gulf of America”… prompting the submission of an amendment to rename this and other landmarks with names referencing the Star Wars universe!
