Ford recalls more than 1 million vehicles over rearview camera issue

The software issue may increase the risk of a crash.

WASHINGTON — More than 1 million Ford vehicles are being recalled due to a software issue that may cause rearview cameras to freeze or delay images.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, a software glitch in Ford vehicles could lead to a potential risk of accidents because the backup camera may not function properly when the cars are in reverse.

Although the Ford Motor Company has mentioned no instances of injuries resulting from the recall, there has been a single claim of a minor collision causing property damage, as per the recall report.

According to the recall, Ford was contacted on Jan. 17 by the NHTSA over the rearview camera complaints.

Affected vehicle owners can expect to receive notification of the recall by mail on or before June 16. A follow-up letter will be sent later in the year to inform them about when the fix will be accessible.

Ford says it plans to update vehicle software for free through dealers or through an over-the-air update.

Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. The recall number associated with the vehicles is 25S49.
