Giant Eagle has announced a recall of bread that was sold under the names “Giant Eagle Multigrain Sourdough” and “Market District Multigrain Sourdough” between April 7-12.
The recall comes after the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) found glass fragments on the bread sold at Giant Eagle stores in Ohio.
The FDA reports that the bread came from Maryland-based Upper Crust Bakery and was sold in six states, including Ohio.Â
A Giant Eagle spokesperson mentioned in an email to 3News that the affected product was available at all Ohio Giant Eagle and Market District bakeries during the specified period.
In its recall notice, Giant Eagle states that there is the “potential presence of glass fragments in the sunflower seeds.”
“Giant Eagle removed the product from store shelves as soon as we were made aware of the recall and contacted customers who purchased the potentially impacted product directly,” the company added in its email. “Importantly, there have been no reports of injury associated with this recall to date.”
Giant Eagle tells 3News that customers who purchased the impacted product may bring in the qualifying receipt to their local Giant Eagle or Market District to receive a refund on their purchase.
According to the FDA, the recall is Class II, “meaning the product may cause temporary or reversible health issues, but is unlikely to lead to long-term serious injury.”
The FDA’s recall is for the following Upper Crust products:
- Ancient Grains Hoagie Roll, 4 oz, Paper carton (corrugated), CP45, Frozen
- Multigrain Sourdough , 18 oz, Paper carton (corrugated), CP12, Frozen
- Whole Grain Multigrain , 20 oz, Paper carton (corrugated), CP12, Frozen
