Girl Scouts of the USA have reassured the public that their cookies are safe to eat.
WASHINGTON — Amid the peak of Girl Scout Cookie season, a recently filed lawsuit is generating concerns regarding the ingredients of the treasured treats. The lawsuit asserts that certain Girl Scout Cookies contain heavy metals, pesticides, and other hazardous chemicals, prompting consumers to question their safety.
A New York woman filed the lawsuit in federal court on Monday.
The legal action stems from a study carried out by advocacy organizations Moms Across America and GMO Science. The study claims to have discovered toxins in all the cookies examined. However, critics argue that the study’s reliability is compromised due to a limited sample size of merely 25 cookies sourced from three states, potentially lacking representation of all Girl Scout cookies.
The lawsuit aims to secure $5 million in damages on behalf of consumers nationwide who have bought the cookies. Additionally, it urges for increased transparency, insisting that the ingredients supposedly detected in the cookies should be disclosed on the packaging.
In response, the Girl Scouts of the USA have reassured the public that their cookies meet all food safety regulations and are safe to consume.Â
