Olivia's Dream toy drive continues in honor of girl who died in Mayfield Heights house fire: How you can help

Since its inception, Olivia’s Dream has provided thousands of toys to children in need, becoming an integral part of the community.

MAYFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio — A local non-profit is continuing to honor a young girl’s dream years after a tragic event.

Olivia’s Dream is a non-profit organization created in memory of Olivia Schneider, a young girl who tragically died in a fire alongside her mother. The foundation continues Olivia’s mission of providing toys, books, and games to underprivileged children during the holiday season, ensuring that every child has a gift to open on Christmas morning.

Olivia may have been young, but her vision was powerful: she believed that no child should experience Christmas without a toy. Her legacy lives on through Olivia’s Dream, bringing happiness and optimism to numerous children every year.

Joe Cicero, the board chair of Olivia’s Dream, reflects on the impact the foundation has had.

One quote perfectly encapsulates the essence of Olivia’s Dream: “A nine-year-old girl had a dream that no child should be without a toy, and from that simple idea, an organization was born that has made a difference in the lives of many.”

Since its inception, Olivia’s Dream has provided thousands of toys to children in need, becoming an integral part of the community.

Cicero notes that the foundation has raised over 45,000 toys in the past six years alone.

“That’s about 50% of what is raised for Toys for Tots in this area,” he said. “So, we’re the largest contributor for Toys for Tots, and that’s all because of a little 9-year-old’s dream.”

As the toy drive continues, Olivia’s spirit remains at the heart of the work being done. What began as a child’s wish has blossomed into an enduring legacy, brightening the holidays for so many children in the community.

Through Olivia’s Dream, her vision of bringing joy to others lives on, ensuring that her legacy will never be forgotten.

This year’s toy drive runs through Thursday, Dec. 12.
