A Flood Advisory is in effect in Lake County until noon Monday.
CLEVELAND — The National Weather Service is warning Lake County residents to be cautious as an ice jam on the Chagrin River is causing flooding.
There is a Flood Warning in Lake County starting at 1 a.m. on Saturday until noon on Sunday. Following the Flood Warning, a Flood Advisory will be active in some parts of the county until noon on Monday.
Firefighters informed the NWS about an ice jam near Chardon Road around 1 a.m. on Saturday, which led to flooding. Currently, there is still “minor flooding” due to the ice jam as of Sunday afternoon.
The NWS advises residents to be cautious of potential “minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.” Specifically, the Willoughby and Willoughby Hills regions are likely to be affected by the flooding.

“Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring,” the NWS said Saturday. “Depending on ice behavior, any release of the ice jam could result in sudden rises of water, leading to a rapid flooding situation.”
The NWS reminds people when encountering flooded roads, “Turn around, don’t drown.” Most deaths from flooding occur in vehicles. The weather service recommended being especially cautious at night as darkness can make it harder to recognize flooding.
