Cleveland Hopkins International Airport welcomes over 10 million passengers in 2024

The airport welcomed a total of 10,173,861 passengers, marking a 3% increase from the previous year.

In 2024, Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE) reached a significant achievement by serving more than 10 million passengers for the first time since 2019.

The airport welcomed a total of 10,173,861 passengers, marking a 3% increase from the previous year.

Although CLE did not reach its predicted goal of 10.25 million passengers, airport officials recognized that various factors such as hurricanes, an IT system failure, and a 66% decrease in Spirit Airlines’ capacity at Cleveland contributed to the slightly lower numbers.

During December, the airport saw 806,104 passengers passing through, marking a 0.55% increase from the previous year. The busiest month for CLE in 2024 was June, with nearly one million passengers traveling through the airport.

“Although we fell a bit short of our initial forecast, 2024 was a busy year and we fared very well overall,” said Bryant L. Francis, Director of Port Control. “Our business development efforts to increase flights and seats will continue in 2025, with several unserved routes being of primary focus.”

A highlight for the airport in 2024 was the launch of a CLE Crew Base by Frontier Airlines, resulting in a 32% boost in passenger activity. Additionally, Aer Lingus announced an expansion of its Dublin service, with flights now operating up to six times per week.

United Airlines led in passenger capacity in 2024, with over 3 million seats offered, followed by Frontier with nearly 2.93 million and American Airlines with over 2.31 million seats.

Looking ahead, Cleveland Hopkins is forecasting 10.4 million passengers for 2025.

The airport is also preparing for a transformative modernization project, which will enhance the passenger experience over the next decade. The multi-phase CLE Terminal Modernization Development Program is set to begin in 2025, coinciding with the airport’s 100th anniversary.
