Big Lots reopening dozens of stores next month. Is your store on the list?

The brand’s new owner is continuing the revival of Big Lots with a third wave of store openings, with more locations coming soon.

WASHINGTON — Big Lots will open dozens more stores in June as it continues its retail comeback.

Variety Wholesaler recently acquired over 200 Big Lots stores in a deal last December. They have been gradually reopening these stores over the past few months. In their latest announcement, the company revealed that 78 more locations will reopen on June 5 across nine different states.

Expect more store openings in the coming months as Variety Wholesaler plans for a big celebration in the fall, as mentioned in a previous press release.

Lisa Seigies, the president and CEO of Variety Wholesalers, expressed excitement about reviving the Big Lots brand. She highlighted the increased deals, popular brands, and a new family apparel department. Seigies emphasized the company’s commitment to quickly reopening stores to serve the community, acknowledging that while the stores may not be perfect initially, new products will be added weekly leading up to the grand celebration in the fall.

Big Lots filed for bankruptcy in 2024 and closed more than 400 stores last year. The retailer, which mostly sells furniture, home decor and some other items, previously said the closures were precipitated by economic pressures, including high inflation and reduced consumer spending on home and seasonal products — critical revenue streams for the retailer.
