Originally just craving a hot dog, man wins $50,000 after buying last ticket in case at Rossford gas station

The man says he told the clerk “let me have the last ticket so they can put a new book in.”

ROSSFORD, Ohio – The Ohio Lottery has reported that a man by the name of James snagged a ,000 prize from a scratch-off ticket. He had purchased the last ticket available in the case from a gas station in Rossford.

The stroke of good luck would have never happened had James not had a craving for a hot dog on his way home from work.

That was the reason he stopped at the Speedway on Dixie Highway in Rossford.

While there, he decided to buy the last ‘Billion’ scratch-off ticket in the case, a ticket he had been noticing for a few days.

James let his sister finish scratching off the rest of the ticket after he revealed the 500x symbol.

“We were laughing and she goes, ‘you won $5,000’ and I said, ‘are you sure?’,” he said.

James then checked the ticket with the Ohio lottery app and showed his sister what it said.

“She looked at it and she’s like, ‘Oh my gosh, I won $50,000’ and I go, ‘No, excuse me. I won $50,000.”

After taxes, James will clear approximately $36,000 on the ticket, according to the Ohio Lottery.

James says he plans on putting his winnings away.
