ORLANDO, Fla. – What if your home could withstand the power of a Category 5 hurricane?

Category 5 hurricanes, with wind speeds exceeding 157 mph, can cause catastrophic damage by demolishing homes, ripping off roofs, and bringing down walls. Picture a residence that can endure sustained winds of up to 175 mph, heavy rainfall, flooding, and power blackouts, ensuring the safety of you and your loved ones.

Well, this isn’t just a dream anymore.

Thanks to OnX Homes and their innovative technology, this level of resilience is no longer a distant dream. These houses are specifically designed to withstand hurricanes, being meticulously constructed to brave the fiercest of storms.

OnX has already constructed 700 hurricane-resistant homes in Florida, with an additional 2,500 in progress. They have also completed housing projects in Texas. Now, OnX is introducing this cutting-edge solution to Central Florida, with the first development in Groveland.

At the heart of these homes is one-of-a-kind construction technology, a unique approach that completely reimagines how we think about strength and durability.

Unlike traditional homes that can be easily affected by high winds, flooding, and storms, these homes are built to handle whatever nature throws at them. They’re not just designed to survive, they’re built to stay solid and secure.

“Our homes are built in factories in Pompano Beach and Homestead, where every detail is crafted under strict quality control. All of the homes go through a meticulous process in these facilities, ensuring that every piece meets our high standards before they’re shipped to the site. Once there, the homes are carefully assembled, ensuring precision and durability,” said Alicia Ale, head of sales at OnX Homes.

She said the homes are designed to withstand winds up to 175 mph because “we build them in a monolithic way.”

“This means the entire structure is formed from pure steel-reinforced concrete — no seams, no gaps. Just one solid, continuous wall. It’s incredibly difficult to tear apart, which makes it perfect for withstanding high-velocity winds. And the structure itself is built to last a lifetime, or even more,” Ale said.

Ale also highlighted another key feature.

“Our homes are elevated 5 to 7 feet above the foundation to protect against flooding, and all the exterior walls are made from pure concrete. We also use LDS trusses and metal roofs, which are all part of our patented X+ Construction process. This approach is cutting-edge, different from the old-fashioned systems used by other builders. The way we build and assemble these homes is like nothing else on the market,” she said.

Ale said the system is “modern and advanced,” using robotics and AI technology to build each home with “incredible precision.”

This blend of robotic innovation and cutting-edge design means these homes aren’t just resistant to hurricanes — they’re built to outlast them, standing as strong and resilient for generations to come.

    Here’s how:

    Monolithic concrete walls

Traditional homes often rely on wooden frames that can be torn apart by hurricane-force winds. The difference in these homes is the use of monolithic concrete walls.

These walls are seamlessly constructed, reinforced with steel and built to withstand winds of up to 175 mph — the intensity of a Category 5 hurricane. With no gaps, seams or weak points, these walls create a continuous, impenetrable barrier, offering an incredible level of protection against high winds and flying debris.

    Core wall technology

The walls aren’t just solid. They’re engineered for extreme durability. Core Wall+ technology uses reinforced concrete in a way that allows the structure to handle extreme wind loads and severe weather without breaking down. These walls provide an additional layer of security, making it incredibly difficult for even the most powerful storms to cause damage.

    Elevated foundations for flood protection

In hurricane-prone areas like Central Florida, flooding is a real concern. To combat this, homes are elevated, sometimes as much as 16 feet above flood zones, creating a natural barrier to rising waters. By raising the home’s foundation, water is kept at bay.

    Impact-resistant windows

Hurricane-force winds bring not only rain but also flying debris, which can break windows and cause devastating damage. That’s why these homes are equipped with hurricane-impact windows, designed to resist high winds and flying debris without shattering.

    Solar power and backup batteries

Power outages are common in severe storms, but these homes don’t leave you in the dark. With solar panels and backup battery systems, these homes can generate and store their own power.

    Water retention systems

Advanced water retention systems are built into these homes to help manage storm water, directing it away from the foundation and reducing the risk of flooding. This technology helps maintain the structural integrity of the home even in the heaviest downpours.

By combining cutting-edge engineering, sustainable practices and advanced technology, the future of hurricane-resistant homes has arrived. These homes are setting a new standard for what it means to live securely in a storm-prone region.
