NOACA has issued a Tuesday air quality advisory for Greater Cleveland and Akron due to ‘fine particle matter’ from the ongoing wildfires in Canada.
In Cleveland, the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency (NOACA) has issued an air quality advisory for Greater Cleveland and Akron on Tuesday. The advisory is for “fine particle matter” likely coming from wildfires in Canada.
This alert will last all day on Tuesday. The air quality might be harmful to “sensitive groups” during this time. The affected counties include:
- Ashtabula
- Cuyahoga
- Geauga
- Lake
- Lorain
- Medina
- Portage
- Summit
Sensitive groups consist of children, the elderly, and individuals with respiratory problems. If you fall into any of these categories, it is advisable to reduce outdoor activities and monitor air quality updates. NOACA has also shared some tips to help minimize air pollution:
- Drive less: bike, walk, use transit, work from home, combine trips.

- Don’t idle – Turn off your engine.
- Refill your tank after sunset.
- Wait to mow the lawn.
The haze from the Canadian wildfire smoke has lingered around Northeast Ohio for days, though for the most part the air quality has remained safe. Fortunately, our 3News weather team says temperatures Tuesday will be much more mild than they were for a similar advisory last week.
“Our skies won’t be blue tomorrow (Tuesday) due to another batch of thicker wildfire smoke from those Canadian wildfires,” our forecasters predict. “This smoke will cause hazy skies to linger into Wednesday as well.”
