ORLANDO, Fla. – More than a million people are expected to pass through MCO ahead of the 4th of July holiday, according to airport officials.

Airport officials say they estimate 1.4 million people will travel through the airport during the holiday travel period that begins on Sunday.

Following severe weather in Atlanta causing significant disruptions at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, the upcoming busy travel period is anticipated to test operations at the airport.

However, many of the people News 6 spoke to at MCO on Sunday said it was smooth sailing.

“So far it’s been pretty smooth,” said Amelia Flynn. “Haven’t had too much hiccups, it’s an early flight.”

Flynn and her family were traveling from New York. She said she prefers the early-morning flights.

According to Flynn, efficient planning is crucial for seamless travel experiences. He emphasized the benefits of early flights for quicker turnaround times despite the initial challenge of getting everyone ready.

According to CBS news, more than 800 flights were cancelled on Saturday in Atlanta.

FlightAware data revealed that on a particular Saturday, Orlando International Airport faced 527 flight delays and 28 cancellations, highlighting potential challenges that travelers may encounter during this period.

Around noon on Sunday, those numbers had dropped significantly, with only 98 delays and three cancellations.

But one person we spoke to on Sunday went as far as to say the airport wasn’t as busy as they had seen it in the past.

“I think it has definitely been busier during the holidays because I’ve been here around December and it was packed,” said Aspen Houser.
