More than 420K portable, wireless chargers recalled due to fire hazard

There have been six cases of minor burn injuries reported, while 51 incidents involved the lithium-ion battery overheating, expanding, or catching fire during the charging of phones.

SAN FRANCISCO — Nearly half a million Casely portable chargers are being recalled after multiple reports of burn injuries.

The recall was initiated on Wednesday and pertains to the Casely Power Pods 5000mAh portable MagSafe wireless phone charger bearing model number E33A, as stated by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. The total number of affected units is approximately 429,200.

It has been specified in the notice that the lithium-ion battery in the recalled power banks could overheat and start a fire, creating fire and burn risks for users. Six minor burn injuries have been documented, with an additional 51 instances of the lithium-ion battery overheating, expanding, or catching fire while individuals were charging their phones.

These pocket-sized chargers were sold online for roughly $30 to $70 and were made between March 2022 and September 2024, according to the notice. The impacted units were sold in multiple colors and prints but have “Casely” engraved on the front. Model number E33A can be found on the back.

Owners of the recalled device are encouraged to stop using them immediately and contact Casely for a free replacement. Click here to initiate the replacement for your recalled unit.

The products were made in China and sold by Casely Inc., from Brookyln, New York.

When getting rid of the recalled unit, do not throw them in the garbage or recycling as lithium-ion batteries need to be disposed of in a more specific way. Contact your municipality for more information on how to properly get rid of the item.
