CRAIG, Colo. — A man armed with a handgun was shot and wounded during an exchange of gunfire with police in Craig Saturday morning.
No officers were injured.
At 8:43 a.m., police were called to a residence at 730 Ashley Boulevard after reports of a man displaying a weapon, the Craig Police Department confirmed.
When officers arrived and encountered the armed man, shots were exchanged between the man and law enforcement, the department said in a new release.
Following the incident, the man sustained injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for initial treatment. Subsequently, he was transferred to another healthcare facility for additional care and stabilization, as detailed in the statement.
Per standard procedure, the officer who was part of the altercation has been placed on paid administrative leave. Apart from the active criminal inquiry, an internal assessment will also be carried out.
