Elyria police investigate Sunday morning shooting

ELYRIA, Ohio — Elyria police are investigating a shooting that hospitalized a 42-year-old man on Sunday morning.

At around 11:14 a.m., the Elyria police were called to a house on Melvyn Lane following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they encountered multiple individuals who had witnessed the event.

Officers located the suspect shortly after arriving. He was detained for questioning and a firearm was confiscated.

Shortly after, the victim arrived at the University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center with a gunshot wound. 

Upon conducting an initial inquiry, it was revealed that there had been a “domestic disturbance” before the shooting took place. While investigators did not dismiss the possibility of self-defense playing a role in the incident, they have not provided any further information at this time. 

No charges have been filed at this time.
