ORLANDO, Fla. – A man accused of stabbing a woman outside the Mall at Millenia on Monday was scared away by an armed witness before being caught in another county, according to Orlando police.
Alinton John, 41, faces charges of resisting an officer without violence, aggravated assault and attempted murder, records show.
Officers responding at 10:46 p.m. to the mall’s parking lot reported locating the victim with multiple stab, slash, and cut wounds to her back, stomach, and neck, as well as to one of her shoulders, one of her thighs, and both breasts, according to John’s arrest report.
Investigators determined that John and the victim were in a dating relationship that had allegedly deteriorated, the report states.
Surveillance footage from the scene reportedly showed John and the woman arriving in the parking lot just before 10 p.m. before talking for about half an hour and entering John’s Tesla. The woman can then allegedly be seen running toward the front entrance of the mall within approximately 10 minutes of getting in the vehicle, police said.
Officers heard from multiple witnesses at the scene. One of them told police that he and some family members were standing in the parking lot “when they saw a female ‘all stabbed up’ exit a red Tesla and heard her screaming,” the report states. The witness said that he drew his concealed pistol, racked a round into the chamber, and pointed it at John.
Another witness told investigators that she saw the exchange while she was in the parking lot in front of the Cheesecake Factory, adding John — who she said was holding a knife — grabbed and punched the woman, who was allegedly screaming and running form him, according to the report. After the first witness drew his gun and reportedly told John to back off, John allegedly replied, “The problem is with her, not you,” this witness said.
Multiple other witnesses told police that John then left in the Tesla. The woman was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where she provided a statement, police said.
John was booked on Tuesday after being arrested at a Wawa in Longwood, where an officer had located him, challenged him and detained him when he tried to run away, according to the report.
John told police that the woman had contacted him and asked to meet up, what he said led to a conversation about whether or not their relationship could be rebuilt, the report states. He went on to acknowledge “a verbal and physical altercation” occurred in the Tesla without being specific about any of his actions, as well as how he left after a witness reportedly pulled a gun on him, police said.
John told investigators that he drove the Tesla to his business — Code Blue Auto Repair LLC — where parked it and got into a Dodge Ram, claiming he left his cellphone in the Tesla, the report states. Further, he said he could not answer the question of where a knife could potentially be found, according to the report.
John was being being held on no bond in Seminole County’s John E. Polk Correctional Facility at the time of this writing.
