Macedonia Fire Department: Crews rescue 3 stranded hikers at Brandywine Falls in Cuyahoga Valley National Park

An 18-year-old man was taken by EMS to a trauma center. His condition is unknown.

In Sagamore Hills, Ohio, three hikers were saved by emergency teams after they got stuck in a ravine at Brandywine Falls in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park on Wednesday evening.

According to the Macedonia Fire Department, officials responded to the scene after receiving a report of hikers unable to climb out of a ravine. One hiker, an 18-year-old man, was reportedly injured.

The group reportedly attempted to climb the ravine wall to alert for help after becoming lost around 4:30 p.m.

Macedonia fire says that first responders arrived at 6:10 p.m. and located the hikers by 6:32 p.m. Two individuals were evaluated and released at the scene. The injured teen required assistance from the Summit County Technical Rescue Operations Team (TROT) for extrication from the ravine.

He was taken to a trauma center by Hudson EMS for evaluation of his injuries. His condition remains unknown.

“This call should serve as a reminder to know your limitations when exploring the National Park, or any park or hiking trail, and not to take inclement weather for granted,” said the Macedonia Fire Department in a press release. “Some things to remember, dress for the weather, remain on marked trails to avoid getting lost and have the proper equipment to safely enjoy your visit.”

Mutual aid for the rescue was provided by Hudson EMS and TROT team members from Macedonia, Twinsburg, Hudson, Cuyahoga Falls and Green.
