GOLDEN, Colo. — Approximately 600 pounds of marijuana were stolen from a Colorado State Patrol evidence container last week, CSP said Wednesday.

Someone stole marijuana from a CSP evidence facility in Arapahoe County. The theft was discovered on Friday when an evidence technician found a damaged gate in the parking lot.

Investigation revealed that the burglars entered the fenced yard on the night of Tuesday, April 1. They used a power tool to break the locks on the gate and evidence container.

CSP released security camera images of two vehicles they believe were involved in the burglary.

The light-colored 1999-2005 Chevrolet Silverado and a white 2007 Honda CRV are possibly traveling together, the agency said in a news release.

The marijuana, weighing 600 pounds, had been confiscated during a highway drug probe and was awaiting disposal, as stated by CSP. No ongoing court case is linked to the stolen marijuana.

Since the burglary, CSP has found gaps in the facility’s security processes. The agency has since ramped up security camera system checks and walkthroughs of the property.

A report was filed with the Englewood Police Department, in addition to the CSP internal investigation, into whether established protocols were violated.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Colorado State Patrol at 303-239-4501.
