Texas student dies after coat gets caught in car door when getting out to go into school

“Our hearts go out to all those affected by this horrible accident as they navigate this devastating loss,” the Borger Police Department said.

BORGER, Texas — A Texas student has died after a tragic accident in the drop-off line at school.

The Borger Police Department reported that on Friday, Jan. 24, around 8 a.m., they received a call regarding a student being injured at the drop-off location of Gateway Elementary.

Police say as the 2nd grade student was getting out of the car, their coat became caught in the vehicle door as the guardian drove off.

Despite efforts by a senior school administrator to intervene, the incident occurred rapidly and could not be prevented, as stated by the BPD.

School officials attempted life-saving measures and the child was taken to al local hospital where they died from their injuries.

The BPD expressed sympathy for those impacted by the tragic accident and emphasized the community’s solidarity in mourning with them. They requested understanding, patience, and compassion for all individuals affected and urged the community to keep the family in their thoughts and prayers during this challenging period.
