MANSFIELD, Ohio — A 5-year-old boy has died after being left inside a hot car in Mansfield on Thursday, Police Chief Jason Bammann confirms.
Bammann reported that police were called to Mansfield Memorial Homes apartment complex on Wood Street after receiving a 911 call. They discovered an unconscious child and promptly transported him to a nearby hospital via ambulance. Tragically, he was later pronounced dead.
It is suspected by Bammann that the boy was accidentally left inside a vehicle during the sweltering heat of the day, with temperatures soaring into the high 80s to low 90s in the Greater Mansfield area. At present, no charges have been pressed, but investigations are underway in cooperation with the Richland County Prosecutor’s Office.
The boy’s name has not yet been released.
