The trailer comes just days after the game’s developers announced that GTA 6 will be delayed until next year.
WASHINGTON — Rockstar Games released a new trailer for the highly-anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI on Tuesday.
The newly released trailer for GTA 6 runs approximately 3 minutes long, presenting a detailed view of the game’s storyline, impressive movie-like graphics, and the exciting features of its new location, Vice City inspired by Miami. This trailer debut occurred shortly after the developers declared a delay in the release date, indicating that GTA 6 will now launch in the following year.
When is GTA 6 coming out?
Originally planned for a fall 2025 release, Grand Theft Auto VI’s launch date has been postponed to May 26, 2026, prolonging the anticipation for the newest edition of this beloved video game series, which has been eagerly awaited for over a decade since the last installment.
The trailer’s description sets the stage for the game’s plot, stating, “Jason and Lucia are up against overwhelming odds. After a botched heist, they find themselves embroiled in a criminal conspiracy in the sunny yet treacherous landscapes of Leonida. Their survival depends on each other in this high-stakes scenario.”
The website for the game now includes more information on the different characters, providing small biographies for each character, according to IGN.
The game characters revealed so far are protagonists Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, the first female protagonist in the franchise. Cal Hampton, Dre’Quan Priest, Raul Bautista, Brian Heder, Real Dimez and Boobie Ike are the supporting characters announced so far.
Grand Theft Auto VI’s new release date means the game will arrive nearly 30 months after the original trailer debuted in December 2023.
In a statement on May 2, Rockstar apologized that the new release date is later than many expected.
“The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team. We want to thank you for your support and your patience as we work to finish the game,” the company said. “With every game we have released, the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception. We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.”
