People from Summit County and beyond are sharing that they are facing delays in receiving packages that were expected to arrive several days, and in some instances, weeks ago.
During this time when schools are closed and Christmas is just around the corner, both youngsters and adults are eagerly anticipating the surprises waiting for them under the Christmas tree. However, there is a sense of worry among some individuals that the gifts they ordered might not reach them in time.
FedEx tells us they’re still experiencing service delays in one portion of Summit County.
Chad Reynolds recounted his frustrating experience, stating, “I placed an online order for same-day delivery, waited for a few hours, and upon calling, they informed me that the order was still in the processing stage. Eventually, I discovered that the order had been canceled.”
To clarify, this specific delivery issue might fall on the manufacturer or Reynolds himself, who admits he’s late to the Christmas shopping game. However, viewers from that area and elsewhere tell us they’re still waiting on packages that were supposed to arrive days — and, in some cases, weeks — ago.
“(It’s) mostly on me, but it was a little frustrating, you know, to think I had it secured and then come to find out it was canceled without any notice,” Reynolds said.
We reached out to FedEx, who sent us a statement reading, in part, “We are still experiencing service delays in the Twinsburg area this condensed peak season due to higher-than-expected volumes and inclement weather affecting some long-haul shipments.”
Satish Jindel, president of ShipMatrix — a company that tracks the shipping data and logistics of postal carriers — says nationwide, FedEx is doing well with their deliveries.
“Based upon millions of packages that we track, they are still delivering 98% of the packages within one extra day of what the commitment time is,” Jindel explained.
Yet with 106 million packages overall delivered in the U.S. every day, 2% of that can still be felt. Jindel acknowledges that delays in areas like Twinsburg are frustrating for shoppers. His advice for those still trying to order something in time?
“Pay extra attention to what the online retailer is selling to you and what their delivery commitment is,” he answered.
Because that one-day, expedited shipping will likely come with a high, high price tag. That’s why shoppers at Crocker Park on Monday weren’t risking it.
“I just like to be able to see it and feel it and know what I’m getting,” Kristina Laraway said.
“I waited ’til the last second,” Colton Buffington added, “so this is me trying to trying to get it done.”
As FedEx works to complete their shipments, they ask that you do not show up at FedEx sites. As hard as it is, they want you to sit tight and wait for those delivery drivers to come to your door.
