2 Canton men arrested in connection with fatal shooting at Summit County Halloween party

Accusations have been made against Terrance Williams for the murder of one person and the assault of another on October 27. Christian Ruben Diaz-Sauceda is suspected of being involved in the assault as well.

Summit County, Ohio – Two arrests have been reported by the police regarding a deadly shooting that occurred at a Halloween gathering in Summit County last October.

Chief Jack Simone of the Springfield Township Police stated that two individuals from Canton, Christian Ruben Diaz-Sauceda, 24 years old, and Terrance Williams, 23 years old, were apprehended within the past three days. Williams is believed to be the shooter and is facing charges of first-degree murder and second-degree assault. Meanwhile, Diaz-Sauceda is charged with complicity in the second-degree assault.

The shooting took place on Oct. 27, 2024, at a home on Canton Road just after midnight. During the party, authorities say 39-year-old Akron native Brian Cofer was shot and killed, while a second victim suffered serious injuries due to “an apparent physical assault.”

Springfield Township police say they took Diaz-Sauceda into custody this past Wednesday, while U.S. Marshals arrested Williams on Friday.

“We recognize that these arrests cannot undo the grief and suffering caused by this senseless act of violence,” Simone said in a statement. “However, we hope this will take a step towards some measure of closure and comfort to the Cofer family and everyone affected. Our officers left no stone unturned in their pursuit of justice, and we remain committed to seeing this case through.”

The Springfield Township murder took place just hours after another fatal shooting at an Akron Halloween party less than 10 miles away, where an 18-year-old woman died and two other teens were injured. No arrests have been announced in that case, police have not indicated that the two incidents are related.
