US Marshals capture suspect wanted for Akron drive-by shooting that injured woman

‘A dangerous and violent fugitive, with no regard for the Akron community and its citizens is now behind bars.’

An Akron woman was seriously injured earlier this year in a drive-by shooting, and a suspect wanted in connection with the incident has been arrested by the U.S. Marshals’ Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force.

According to a release, 32-year-old Matt Walker was captured by NOVFTF members on Wednesday at a home in the 1100 block of Becker Lane in Akron. Marshals say a 9mm “untraceable” handgun was recovered during the arrest. Walker was taken to the Summit County Jail.

Walker was wanted for the drive-by shooting that happened on Oct. 22 in the 300 block of West Miller Road in Akron. “During the drive by, a female victim who was sitting on her porch was struck by gunfire. She sustained serious injuries but survived the shooting,” officials noted in the release.

In all, Walker was wanted by the Akron Police Department for felonious assault, domestic violence, strangulation and violations of his parole. Walker was being supervised by the Ohio Adult Parole Authority for having weapons while under disability.

“A dangerous and violent fugitive, with no regard for the Akron community and its citizens is now behind bars,” said U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott in a statement. “A fugitive who is under supervision for weapons violations, wanted for new weapons related offenses, and found with a firearm at the time of his arrest is exactly who needs to be taken off the streets to protect our communities.”
