Crocker Park resident arrested after allegedly pointing rifle from balcony, Westlake police say

Officials at Crocker Park reported to Westlake police that the man is now in the process of being evicted.

A 54-year-old resident of Crocker Park in Westlake was taken into custody on Monday night following reports from witnesses who claimed to have seen him aiming a large rifle from a fifth-floor balcony, according to the Westlake Police Department.

The incident took place at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Monday when law enforcement received a call from a bystander who observed the man allegedly pointing the weapon towards apartments in the Main Street vicinity above the H&M store. The witness also captured video footage of the episode and promptly contacted the authorities.

Given the uncertainty surrounding the individual’s motives, Westlake police secured the area and enlisted backup from neighboring law enforcement agencies. Drones were utilized to evaluate the situation from a safe distance.

Police say they eventually used a drone to communicate with the man, who complied with orders to exit his apartment unarmed. He was taken into custody without incident, and no shots were fired during the encounter.

The man has since been identified as Robert Olah. He has been charged with inducing panic, and investigators say they recovered approximately 13 firearms from his apartment along with seven boxes of ammunition.

Officials at Crocker Park reported to Westlake police that Olah is now in the process of being evicted.
