Olivier Giroud 'in advanced talks with LAFC over potential transfer when his AC Milan contract expires this summer - which would reunite striker with former France teammate Hugo Lloris

LAFC is in advanced talks with Olivier Giroud over a potential move when his AC Milan contract expires this summer, according to reports.

Giroud, France’s all-time leading scorer, has just over three months to run on his current deal with Milan, where he has spent close to three years after calling time on his successful stint at Chelsea.

According to The Athletic, LAFC is leading the race for the 37-year-old’s signature after securing his MLS discovery rights – meaning the team has priority to sign him over any of their league rivals.

Moving to California would see Giroud reunite with former France teammate Hugo Lloris, who signed for LAFC earlier this year.

The pair enjoyed great success together at international level, with both members of France’s 2018 World Cup-winning squad.

Giroud would also join a strong attack already containing MLS Golden Boot winner and fellow Frenchman Denis Bouanga, as well as Uruguay international Cristian Olivera, if he makes the move to LA.

The ex-Chelsea center forward is enjoying another impressive season in Milan, registering 12 goals and eight assists in 26 Serie A appearances so far.

He has become an integral member of the Italian side since making the move from England in 2021, helping them win Serie A in his debut campaign.

Prior to his stint in Italy, Giroud won the Champions League, Europa League and FA Cup in his time with Chelsea, after recording 105 goals and 41 assists in 253 games for their London rivals Arsenal.

The veteran striker also has 59 goals in 129 caps with France, whom he helped reach the World Cup final in 2018 and 2022 – beating Croatia in the first and losing to Argentina in the second.
