The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is set to make the final £299 Cost of Living Payment in just two weeks. It’s estimated that around eight million households will receive this payment, which is given to those who meet certain criteria.

This payment is the last part of a £900 support package aimed at helping millions of families struggling with living costs. After the £301 and £300 payments made last year, there’s one more amount left to be sent out in 2024.

It’s not yet confirmed if the DWP will offer another £900 package of Cost of Living Payments later in 2024 or in 2025. The government reportedly has no plans to provide any other Cost of Living Payments, instead, they’re focusing on increasing benefits, State Pension and housing support.

The final payment of the current 2023/24 Cost of Living support package will start being paid on February 6, 2024. These amounts are automatically sent directly to recipients, so those eligible don’t need to apply or contact the government to receive it.

Over seven million UK households got £300 directly from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) during the last payment run. To get the next payment in February, you must be getting one of the following benefits during the qualifying periods:

For most people, to get the February payment, you would have needed to be getting or agree to get any of the above benefits or credits between November 13, 2023 to December 12, 2023. In the UK, about 14.5 million people are living in poverty, which is 22 per cent of the population, so this help could be very important for many.

The first Cost of Living Payment of £301 was sent out between April 25 and May 17, 2023. The second payment of £300 then followed, recently being paid to millions between from November 10 to November 19, 2023. That was the last Cost of Living Payment of the run in 2023.
