Man dies in Canton shooting, 18-year-old woman charged with his murder

The victim has been identified as 30-year-old Shawn Hawkins. The teen accused of shooting him has been charged with murder.

CANTON, Ohio — Police in Canton are investigating after a shooting left a man dead late Wednesday morning.

A statement from the department revealed that the incident took place shortly before 11:30 a.m. at a residence on 2nd Street Southwest. Responding officers discovered the victim, identified as Shawn Hawkins, aged 30, who had sustained a gunshot wound to his chest. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries at Aultman Hospital.

The suspect was later identified as Money L. Baccus, an 18-year-old individual residing at the same location where the shooting occurred. Authorities disclosed that Baccus was apprehended on Wednesday evening in Akron and has been formally charged with murder.

Despite the arrest of Baccus, law enforcement officials have emphasized that the investigation remains active. Individuals possessing any relevant information are urged to reach out to the detective bureau of the Canton Police Department at (330) 489-3144.
