An off-duty police officer held a murder suspect at gunpoint Friday night after a deadly shooting at an Indianapolis steakhouse.
The initial fight between Randy Godfrey, 34, and Robert “Blaine” Smith, 32, at a Texas Roadhouse was interrupted by the officer and restaurant staff, allowing Smith to flee outside, according to a report by WISH. Despite attempts to intervene, Godfrey managed to break free from the officer, showing no regard for her law enforcement status and declaring his intent to harm Smith.
After jumping over a wall and pursuing Smith outside, Godfrey proceeded to shoot him multiple times before the officer, who was enjoying a meal with her partner, retrieved her firearm and caught up to Godfrey. Upon reaching him, Godfrey requested the officer to shoot him, to which she responded by keeping him at gunpoint until other police officers on duty arrived.
The altercation occurred while Godfrey, Smith, Godfrey’s fiancee, her sister, and Godfrey’s two children were dining together. The reason behind the altercation was not disclosed by the authorities.
Godfrey’s fiancee told police she saw her boyfriend follow Smith to the car and shoot. “Did I hit you?” Godfrey asked, firing two more shots when Smith stood up.
Medics took Smith to a hospital, but it was too late.
Godfrey was charged with murder.
