14 exciting new Yorkshire restaurants you have to visit

The food and drink scene in Yorkshire has some wonderful new restaurants for you to try with even more coming soon.

We’ve taken a look at the best of the recent new eateries which have come to our region. This includes recent openings and ones on the horizon.

We’ve tried to include a good mix of cuisines and expert dishes. The list includes towns and cities across Yorkshire.

In Sheffield shopping centre Meadowhall we will soon see some major chains open their doors. In the coming weeks we’ll see Yo! Sushi open a new restaurant while Popeyes will be launching.

Tom Crowley, chief executive officer at UK, said: “We are thrilled to announce another Popeyes restaurant launch in Yorkshire later this year. Our Rotherham restaurant opening in May was our biggest ever launch, not just in the UK but for Popeyes globally, and we’re confident that Meadowhall will be equally as popular.”

The new Sheffield restaurant will be located within Meadowhall Shopping Centre at the food court and will seat up to 80 people for those dining in, with takeaway also available.


It is a busy time for Popeyes as they are currently working on their new branch in Barnsley. The fried chicken diner is launching in The Peel Centre this autumn. For those unfamiliar with Popeyes, on the New Orleans-inspired menu, you will find spicy chicken, Louisiana-style tenders and a chicken sandwich as well as their famed biscuits and gravy.


We’ve taken a look at the best of the recent new eateries which have come to the city. These include latest Trinity Leeds addition Slim Chickens.

The fast food diner opened earlier this summer and is very much looking to give Nando’s and KFC a run for their money. Elsewhere in Leeds city centre, we’ve seen Restaurant Bar and Grill, based across from Leeds Train Station, reopen following a lavish £2m makeover.

In a similar vein, we’ve also welcomed Six By Nico with it being based in East Parade. Ma-Hé, based at the Merrion Centre, offers five cuisines from India’s coastlines.

Ma-Hé is the brainchild of a partnership between founders Shyam Sundar Bhaskaran, a fine dining chef within prominent five-star hotel chains in India, Manoj Varma, who has more than two decades of experience and expertise within the hospitality industry, alongside eminent local business partner and entrepreneur, Mason Asgha, who had travelled across India for over 20 years.

While in August, we brought you news of Maki and Ramen launching in the former Pret A Manger site in Bond Street. On the menu at the Japanese restaurant, you’ll find dishes including miso ramen, karaage, nigiri and hosomaki.

Famous burger chain Wendy’s will launch their Leeds branch, in Briggate, on Thursday, September 14. A spokesperson said: “The new restaurant will provide fans with the signature Wendy’s items they know and love across breakfast, lunch and dinner, including the Baconator, Dave’s Single, the Spicy Chicken Sandwich and of course the Frosty dessert.

“These favourites are joined by an exclusive range of items only available in the UK, including chicken fillet nuggets and the curry bean burger – square just like Wendy’s beef burgers.”

While, Farmhouse, launched in Leeds on Monday, September 11 after being successful in Harrogate. It offer breakfast, brunch and all-day dishes. Another new upcoming sweet treat set for Leeds is Fluffy Fluffy.

The pancake bar will be based in Leeds city centre at The Headrow. The venue will be able to seat up to 44 guests and create over 20 jobs.

And finally, Pizza Loco has started a residence in The Meanwood Tavern. Pizza Loco founder Ollie Reynolds said: “We love traditional Italian pizza, and we also love to experiment – our pizzas aren’t just about what the Neapolitan ‘rules’ stipulate.”

Pizza Loco make classic 12 in Neapolitan pizzas with a contemporary twist. It was founded in 2014 and has earned a reputation as one of Leeds’ best pizza joints.


New fish and chip restaurant Finley’s opened in Holmfirth back in July. It replaced the former Catch eatery and is overseen by chef Martin Cockram.

A spokesperson said: “Martin and his team are looking forward to welcoming back their loyal customers as well as those who have never experienced the great seafood dining experience that the people of Holmfirth and visitors to the area have enjoyed in the past.

“Well-known for its welcoming environment and great service, this local institution has managed to retain many of its team of staff who will be so familiar with the locals and will bring back guest favourites including a ‘simply fish’ concept.”


Big Maya’s Jerk started welcoming customers to the new Hoxton Road restaurant at the end of August. Diners can expect lots of Caribbean flavours.

“We’re thrilled to share our passion for Caribbean and African cuisine with our community in Scarborough,” said Maya Mihoc, founder of Big Maya’s Jerk. “From fiery jerk chicken to comforting curry goat and our signature jollof rice, each dish is a tribute to our roots and cultural heritage.”

Heritage fro-yo parlour Frurt launched its newest branch in Yorkshire in August. Frurt is based in Batley Shopping Centre with lots to savour. The frozen yoghurt on the menu is served with a wide variety of toppings. On the menu, there’s also handmade cakes and a variety of drinks including bubble tea, smoothies, iced drinks, thick shakes and coffee.
