US Coast Guard rescues 3 after boat capsizes off Florida coast: video

Video from the U.S. Coast Guard shows the moment three boaters were rescued after their vessel capsized off the coast of Florida over the weekend.

The rescue mission took place on Sunday after the Coast Guard was called out to find three overdue boaters off Captiva Island.

The Coast Guard was alerted around 1 a.m. on Sunday by a family member of one of the boaters, who had last been in contact with them at 8 p.m. on Saturday. The boaters were reported to be on a 20-foot center console vessel.

A Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater MH-60 helicopter aircrew flew out to search for the missing boaters following the report.

Chief Warrant Officer Dennise Werre of Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg commended the swift collaboration between the Coast Guard and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, which led to successfully locating and rescuing the three boaters. The use of essential search tools played a crucial role in the operation.

Chief Warrant Officer Dennise Werre emphasized the importance of creating a float plan with a trusted individual before embarking on a boating trip. Float plans offer vital details to first responders, including the planned route, number of individuals on board, and available safety equipment.

Officials were unsure of what caused the boat to capsize.
