Last week, a 36-year-old man from Colorado was taken into custody by Pueblo County sheriff’s deputies for allegedly assaulting his 18-year-old wife. The deputies, however, had to wait for a day to arrest him as they needed to obtain a warrant first.
When the deputies responded to a call regarding a family disturbance at Taggart Reike’s residence on Thursday, Reike refused to cooperate and stayed inside his home. The deputies discovered the teenager outside with visible injuries, and she informed them that her husband had attacked her.
She was taken to a hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries and later released.
Reike is facing charges of assault, harassment, reckless endangerment, and domestic violence. This was not the first time he had resisted law enforcement — in 2020, he was involved in a standoff with the sheriff’s office.
According to KRDO, Reike was ordered held on a $50,000 bond. They did not say if his teenage bride was safe.
