Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered a neighbor administering CPR to the boy. Subsequently, both police officers and firefighters sustained their life-saving efforts until the child was transported via ambulance to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital, according to authorities.

The boy was later pronounced dead, police said.

Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie Mosser’s office said the driver is an immediate family member and fully cooperated with the investigation.

“State’s Attorney Mosser expressed the tragic nature of the incident, acknowledging its profound impact on the family and the wider community. The review of the incident revealed no indications of criminal behavior, recklessness, or negligence. Such a distressing event is one that no family member should ever have to endure. Our heartfelt condolences go out to all those affected by this heartbreaking occurrence, particularly the family of the young boy. Gratitude was extended to the St. Charles Police Department and the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team for their meticulous and professional investigation,” said Mosser.

“Deputy Chief Rich Clark remarked on the profound sorrow felt by the entire Police Department and First Responders in solidarity with the impacted family and friends. The community at large was deeply moved by this sorrowful incident, and the memory of our young resident will forever remain in our thoughts,” stated Deputy Chief Clark.
