A 4-year-old Florida boy found a loaded, unsecured handgun in the family car Friday night and shot himself in the head with it.
Quinta and Robert Morris were faced with a heartbreaking situation when they discovered their son, Chosen, in the car with a gunshot wound following a sound that they initially thought was caused by a broken object, as reported by WTVT.
The parents rushed the boy to AdventHealth Heart hospital. He was transferred to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children, where he died.
According to police reports, the family was preparing for an evening trip when Chosen went to the car to wait, where he stumbled upon a loaded weapon hidden beneath the driver’s seat.
Expressing condolences, Davenport Police Chief Steve Parker labeled the incident as a tragic accident and conveyed his sympathy, stating, “This is a tragic accident. As a father and grandfather, I can’t imagine what Mr. and Mrs. Morris are going through right now. Our prayers are certainly with the Morris family as they endure this heartbreaking tragedy.”
