A North Carolina man faces multiple charges after police say he deliberately caused a head-on crash in an attempt to kill his wife.
Anderson Singleton’s wife and two people in the car he hit suffered serious injuries in the crash just before 6 a.m. on Saturday in Raleigh.
The crash was caught on a witness’s dash cam, police said. The witness, Jorge Bravo, told WNCN what Singleton said after the crash.
He recounted, “He was like, ‘Oh, that’s not an accident. I was trying to kill my wife and myself. We were fighting each other. We’re trying to kill each other.’ We’re definitely on the psych ward,” he said. “And I thought that was a very interesting thing for him to just kind of blurt out nervous and he was just, like, confessing all this.”
Raleigh police said Singleton swerved over the center line into oncoming traffic, slamming head-on into a Toyota Camry with two men inside.
An off-duty paramedic was driving by and stopped to assist before EMS arrived on the scene.
According to court records, Singleton did not seem to be under the influence at the time of the incident. He was brought before a judge on Monday, who instructed him to maintain a distance from his wife. The charges filed against him include two counts of assault with a deadly weapon resulting in serious injuries, assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to cause harm, reckless driving, and driving on the wrong side of the road. Additionally, the judge included charges of domestic violence assault, stalking, and issuing threats. He was remanded without bail.
