Watch terrifying moment swimmer is nearly swept off roof in Bangkok as pool water sloshes over during Myanmar quake

THIS is the heart-stopping moment a swimmer was almost swept-off a rooftop in Bangkok after a monster earthquake in Myanmar rocked the city.

A couple was captured on CCTV footage leisurely lounging on a floatie in a pool situated on the edge of a high-rise building in the Thai capital, while another man relaxed on a sun lounger nearby.

But their afternoon dip soon turned into a terrifying ordeal as the building began to shake, sending huge waves crashing across the pool deck.

At the first tremor, the couple lurch out of the floatie, looking visibly confused.

Seconds later, the shaking intensifies, and the luxury pool suddenly becomes tidal waves.

The pair scramble to escape as gallons of water slosh violently across the rooftop, with one swimmer nearly swept off the edge.

They’re seen clinging on and struggling to stay upright as the tower shakes beneath them.

The chilling video was recorded during a devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake that struck Myanmar on Friday, resulting in the tragic loss of over 1,000 lives and leaving more than 2,000 people injured.

Tremors were felt across the region, with Thailand’s capital Bangkok jolted into chaos.

A major high-rise also collapsed in the city, leaving survivors trapped beneath the rubble.

Following the catastrophic event, Bangkok governor Chadchart Sittipunt announced the city as a “disaster area” and initiated rescue operations at three construction sites, including the collapsed skyscraper.

As of Saturday morning, eight people were killed in Thailand, another eight injured, and 79 reported missing.

The quake’s epicentre hit the city of Mandalay, Myanmar, at around 12.50pm on Friday, followed by five powerful aftershocks.

One, measuring 6.4, struck just 12 minutes later, according to the US Geological survey.

The USGS labelled the shaking as “violent” and warned up to 100,000 people could be killed, calling the disaster “likely widespread”.

The German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) said the initial quake was 10km deep, with aftershocks felt as far as India and China.

Officials have dubbed it the “quake of the century” – the worst to hit Myanmar in nearly 100 years.

Airports, train stations and the metro in both Bangkok and Myanmar have also been severely disrupted.

China, Russia, Malaysia and other countries have sent aid and rescue teams.

The US and the UN are also assessing humanitarian needs.

Myanmar’s military government said hospitals are in desperate need of blood donations, as rescue teams dig through rubble in hopes of finding more survivors.

The disaster struck as the country remains locked in a brutal civil war, adding to the chaos now unfolding across the region.

It comes after people fleeing the deadly Myanmar earthquake are drenched in gushing water from a rooftop infinity pool.

Footage captured terrified locals in Bangkok being swept away by a huge wave after water from a pool spilled onto the street.

Gallons of water were seen coming crashing down from the top of a skyscraper in the Thai capital.

A number of people, mainly women, can be seen running through the streets as the first tremors are felt in the city.

Those who were rushing to safety past the high-rise were suddenly caught up in floods of water after a rooftop infinity pool was left sloshing over.
