American Pie actress arrested and ‘wrapped in chains’ on US-Mexico border amid Trump immigration crackdown

A TOP Canadian actress who played a role in the famous American Pie movie franchise has reportedly been detained at the Mexico border.

At 35 years old, Jasmine Mooney described the conditions she experienced while detained by US immigration officials as “inhumane,” stating that she was even “wrapped in chains.” Throughout her attempt to obtain a new visa, she found herself in a distressing situation.

The actress, known for her role in American Pie Presents: The Book of Love, reportedly arrived in the country through Mexico. She was approached by US border agents, who requested her to initiate the process for a new work visa.

Prior to this encounter, Mooney had her work visa revoked by US authorities. In response, she ventured to the border crossing armed with a new job offer and the necessary documentation to reapply for her work visa.

But she was quickly refused entry back to Mexico and was detained by the agents, KGTV reports.

She claimed she was held inside a cold room three days before she was arrested by ICE and thrown into San Diego’s Otay Mesa Detention Center.

The actress told the news outlet: “I have never in my life seen anything so inhumane.

“I was put in a cell, and I had to sleep on a mat with no blanket, no pillow, with an aluminum foil wrapped over my body like a dead body for two and a half days.

“Every single guard that sees me is like ‘What are you doing here? I don’t understand – you’re Canadian. How are you here?’”

Mooney claimed she was held along with 30 other women and was transported to Arizona with them.

“We were up for 24 hours wrapped in chains,” she added.

The actress has not been charged with any crime, and is expected to be released today after spending 11 days behind bars.

It comes after a Brit tourist’s dream trip turned into a nightmare after a “visa mix-up” led to her being detained at the US border.

Becky Burke, 28, was detained at the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) processing centre in Washington state, according to her family.

Becky’s dad, Paul Burke, said she tried to cross the border into Canada but was denied entry due to an “incorrect visa”.

But when she tried to return to the US she was refused re-entry and treated like an “illegal alien”.

Her dad said he could not understand why she was “locked up and she’s in an orange prison jumpsuit while the paperwork gets sorted out.”

Paul said: “What was meant to be a life-changing four-month backpacking trip across North America has turned into a nightmare.”

Trump declared an official national emergency at the US-Mexico border soon after getting back to the White House in January.

He signed an executive order to use federal funding to build a wall along the boundary without the permission of Congress.

While signing the order, he said “That’s a big one. People have wanted to do this for years.”

He also signed a directive to end birthright citizenship – when a person born on US soil is given American citizenship.

Protected by the Constitution – this order is likely to come up against hefty legal challenges during his term.

Trump also promised mass deportations – although the specifics of this are likely to be challenged by the courts as well.

And he closed down a Biden-era Customs and Border Protection app that gave migrants the chance to apply to legally enter the US by seeking asylum.

Trump’s crackdown on immigration

Starting on January 20, Trump has taken a series of measures aimed at cracking down on migration, including implementing a broad ban on asylum for migrants encountered at the southern border and ending some legal pathways for migrants to enter the US.

The abrupt termination of one such humanitarian parole program, known as CBP One, left thousands of migrants from around the world suddenly stranded in Mexico with few, if any, legal pathways to reach the U.S.

About 20 migrants in Mexico told Reuters that since CBP One ended on January 20 they’ve sought to return to their home countries, but lack the money or documents to do so. Some don’t have valid passports, required for boarding international flights.

Many migrants fear staying in Mexico due to the risks of assault, kidnapping, and extortion by powerful organized crime groups that prey on migrants.
