When Pope Leo XIV was declared as the next leader of the Catholic Church, he appeared in the classic red and gold attire that was rejected by the previous Pope Francis.

This change in wardrobe might have pleased the owners of these sacred canines, who believed that it was crucial for their pets to resemble the highest authority figure with a flashy outfit.
In 2015, when Francis visited the US, there was a trend for dressing up dogs to look like the Vatican chief.
Now that Cardinal Robert Prevost, 69, from Chicago, has become the first American pope, that congregation is sure to grow.
In fact, Meryl Espiniero from New York went as far as dressing up her dog, Romeo Valentino, as the Pope in St. Peter’s Square in Rome while anticipating the conclave’s decision this week.
