Last week, a man from Alabama was taken into custody on a manslaughter accusation following the tragic incident where he collided with a 10-year-old girl who was riding her scooter.
Ember Poe died eight days after the November 5, 2024, incident at Children’s of Alabama in Birmingham, AL.com reported.
John David Winton, 45, was arrested on Wednesday and booked into the Shelby County Jail.
Court documents reveal that Winton was apprehended just three days after the fatal collision, initially facing charges related to drug possession and the possession of drug paraphernalia. Despite being released on bond, he resumed his duties as a maintenance worker at the apartment complex where the Poe family resided.
Kelly Lane, the mother of the young girl, took to her social media accounts this week to discuss the situation. She mentioned that the man’s vehicle still bore evidence of the impact with her daughter and that the apartment management had offered her the option to relocate if she felt uncomfortable staying at the complex.
She told AL.com that she learned Winton was fired and he was arrested on Wednesday.
