He told me he'd never been on a date and didn't know how to talk to girls... I wasn't sure how to respond: Read our excruciating and VERY awkward blind date - and the shocking thing that came next

Each week, FEMAIL invites two individuals to share their experiences after a blind date. This time, Tyler, 24, and Jay, 24, spill all the details about their lunch rendezvous.

TYLER, 24

Dating past?

I have been on internet dates, but I hate the pressure of constantly having to talk to people you don’t know.

I did find one lovely guy online, but he had some very sad family issues and it was too soon to get involved.

Pre-date nerves?

Yes, I always get them before a date. You want to come off well, especially with someone you have never met before.

First impressions?

Jay certainly put in the effort for the date. He arrived looking sharp and even brought roses, a sweet gesture. While I found him to have a cute face, I unfortunately didn’t feel a romantic spark. Nonetheless, I greeted him with a hug – I’m one for hugs!

It was a bit awkward on his side, I think. He seemed very nervous but told me he hadn’t expected anyone so pretty, which was a lovely thing to hear.

I’m not sure he asked that many questions, but he was a good listener

Easy to talk to?

Early on, Jay revealed that he had never been on a date before and felt unsure about how to converse with women. I was a bit taken aback by this admission but decided to dig deeper by asking him plenty of questions to understand his perspective. It turned out to be more like an informal interview in the beginning.

He said his family lives in India but that they’re very close.

We both like swimming so we chatted about that, too. To be honest, I’m not sure he asked that many questions about me, but he was a good listener.

Embarrassing moments?

Tyler thought Jay was sweet but a little too introverted for her

Yes, I left the voucher to pay for lunch in the toilet when I went to reapply my lipstick. I looked in my bag when it was time to pay and it wasn’t there, but luckily it was still there when I dashed back to the loos. I am so scatty!

Did sparks fly?

Sadly not. He was sweet, but a bit too introverted for me.

I’m outgoing, so I need someone who can bounce off me in conversation. We had things in common but not enough to make me feel excited about another date.

Would you see them again?

We exchanged Instagrams and I gave him a hug goodbye, but beyond that, no, I can’t see us meeting up again.

What do you think he thought of you?

I don’t know. Possibly that I was a bit ‘too much’ but he was too polite to say so. I think he found me attractive but nothing more than that.

Would your friends like him?

They wouldn’t dislike him, but would realise he’s too shy for my extrovert personality.

BLIND DATE VITAL STATISTICS

ALISON, 24, no children

CURRENT ROLE: Public relations in the beauty industry.

WOULD LIKE TO MEET: Someone quirky and funny who doesn’t support Nigel Farage! It’s a ‘no’ to anyone boring, creepy or clingy, too.

JAY, 24, no children

CURRENT ROLE: Senior healthcare assistant.

WOULD LIKE TO MEET: Someone kind and honest with a sense of humour. I love sport, so she would ideally like outdoor activities.

JAY, 24

Pre-date nerves?

Yes, who wouldn’t be nervous on their first ever date? I’m rather naive so I was worried about what questions to ask her.

First impressions?

Tyler looked lovely in a denim dress. I didn’t expect any girl to be this beautiful on my first date, but she was. I especially liked her brown eyes.

She is 4ft 11in and I am 5ft 7in, so she is a lot shorter than me, which meant she had to reach up on tiptoes to give me a hug. It felt a bit awkward, but only because she’s the first woman outside my own family that I’ve ever hugged.

Easy to talk to?

Yes, she didn’t seem nervous at all. I think it helped that I had bought her some roses – she seemed to appreciate that.

I also let her order first when we sat down as I have seen that in the movies.

I asked Tyler about her dreams and ambitions. She said she loves her work in PR and is happy doing that, so she doesn’t really think about the future. I have a good sense of humour but I’m not good at making up jokes on the spot, and because I was nervous, I think I came across as shy.

I do tend to be a listener, as you learn more that way.

Embarrassing moments?

None at all, luckily.

Did sparks fly?

Tyler is very beautiful but, because it was my first date, I didn’t flirt.

She was curious why I’d never dated, so I told her I just didn’t know how to approach women or what to say to them.

Kindly, she gave me advice about socialising more and how to boost my confidence. I reminded her that if our date worked out, I wouldn’t need to approach another girl again.

She may think I’m too timid, as I have never had a girlfriend

See her again?

She was really polite and gave me a hug goodbye at the station, but I could tell she didn’t want to see me again.

I’ve tried to get in touch several times since our date, but she hasn’t replied. I was disappointed but I’m Hindu so tend to think what will be, will be.

What do you think she thought of you?

As a first-timer, I have no idea. She may think I’m too timid, as I have never had a girlfriend. I have a feeling she’s got me down as a future friend and nothing else.

What would your family think of her?

I share everything with my family, so I sent them a photo of Tyler – they think she looks really nice.
