Ant and Dec jump for joy as duo celebrate Newcastle's Carabao Cup win against Liverpool at Wembley - after their beloved club ended 70-year domestic trophy drought

Iconic TV duo Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly jumped for joy as they celebrated Newcastle’s Carabao Cup win over Liverpool at Wembley on Sunday.

The Tyneside stars, commonly known as ‘Ant and Dec’, cheered as Dan Burn scored Newcastle’s first goal just before half-time. Celebratory roars filled the air as the final whistle marked the end of the club’s 70-year wait for a domestic trophy.

In a 2-1 victory against Arne Slot’s team, Newcastle clinched their first major trophy since the 1955 FA Cup final. Local favorite Burn and the in-form striker Alexander Isak secured the goals at the national stadium.

Scoring first for Newcastle was Burn, who headed in a goal from a distance of no less than 15 yards after a corner by Kieran Trippier. The towering 6ft 5in center back rose high to direct the ball into the bottom left corner, igniting jubilation among thousands of Newcastle supporters, including the famous presenters.

Burn’s goal means that he has now scored more non-penalty goals in cup finals than Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah – the Egyptian King is yet to manage such a feat.

Also in the stands was Newcastle legend Alan Shearer; the Premier League’s all-time top goalscorer swapped his TV duties to make the trip to north-west London to watch his former side.

Alexander Isak, Newcastle’s top goalscorer this season, doubled his side’s fortunes on the other end of half-time to put them two up.

Slot went deep into his bench to throw everything he had at Eddie Howe’s side, making five second-half changes.

It was substitutes Harvey Elliot and Federico Chiesa who linked up to pull one back for Liverpool in the 94th minute, but it was too little too late.

Newcastle saw out the remaining moments of the game, despite the clock running two minutes past the initial eight extra allocated, and 32,000 travelling Geordie fans erupted in celebration.

On the night before that game, the Toon took to Trafalgar Square to make their presence felt in London with a massive turnout.

I’m A Celeb stars Ant and Dec reportedly helped to promote the Saudi Public Investment Fund’s takeover of Newcastle United, it was revealed in October.

The Tyneside stars were asked to promote an article about opposition to the Premier League failing to approve the Saudi Public Investment Fund’s takeover, it has been reported.

In WhatsApp messages The Telegraph report they have seen, former Magpies director Amanda Staveley promised that Ant and Dec would ‘push’ the article – and within four minutes they had shared it on Twitter.

The article in October 2020 from the Shields Gazette was about a supporters’ group claiming that the Premier League was acting against UK anti-competition law by delaying the takeover.

According to The Telegraph, two days later Ant and Dec’s account on the platform, which is now called X, shared another article from the same publication answering questions about the progress of the takeover.

In the summer of 2020 the Premier League refused to sanction the takeover, which involved a consortium backed by the Public Investment Fund (PIF) of Saudi Arabia, amid concerns over links to the Saudi state.

The nation’s favourite double act found themselves a surprise enemy in Extinction Rebellion at the end of last year.

Extinction Rebellion called for Ant and Dec both 49, to be axed from I’m A Celeb for their ties to Santander Bank.

The climate activist group wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter: ‘Ironic that Ant and Dec are on ITV again in the Jungle, while they’re the face of Santander bank, a massive financier of deforestation and destruction in the Amazon Jungle…

‘Ant and Dec get them out of there.’

The statement was written on the group’s South London X page, XR Balham, in November launch show.

Extinction Rebellion has a strong presence in Australia, where the show takes place each year.
