A Georgia police chief has been arrested for alleged sex crimes against a minor.
Police Chief Ashley Wilson, 40 years old, from the Nicholls Police Department, was arrested by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) on Thursday. The arrest came after allegations that Wilson had been sending inappropriate text messages to a 15-year-old girl from Norcross. The teen’s mother discovered the messages and promptly reported the situation to an officer at the Nicholls Police Department, according to information provided by the GBI.
The text messages that Wilson allegedly sent to the young girl contained requests for a sexual relationship. Shockingly, it was discovered during the investigation that many of these messages were actually sent while Wilson was on duty as a police chief.
As per reports from WRDW, the mother reported the incident on a Wednesday, and by the following day, Wilson had been apprehended and placed under arrest at Coffee County Jail. He is currently facing charges that include three counts of enticing a child, one count of violation of his oath of office, and one count of conspiracy to commit child molestation.
The GBI is actively investigating and encourages anyone with information to contact the GBI Regional Investigative Office in Douglas at (912) 389-4103 or the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office at (912) 384-4227. Anonymous tips can also be submitted by calling 1-800-597-TIPS (8477).
