Harrowing moment pregnant woman pleads ‘I can’t die today’ after being trapped in runaway car with brake failure

THIS is the horrifying moment a pregnant woman is trapped in a runaway car with a brake failure – pleading “I can’t die today”.

Footage shows the out-of-control car speeding towards a lake in Illinois, US, at a deadly 30mph.

The local County Sheriff’s Office received a chilling 911 call at around 2am on December 2 from the terrified woman behind the wheel.

She told them she was unable to stop her vehicle as she sped towards a lake at life-threatening speeds.

Footage shows how the car’s brake lights were turned on – but the car showed no signs of slowing down, maintaining around a 30mph speed.

In the heart-stopping clip you can hear the woman desperately screaming: “I need help. My brakes won’t stop. My car won’t stop.

“My brakes aren’t working. I’m 20 weeks pregnant. I cannot die today.”

Within a matter of seconds, a dispatch officer is heard asking her to turn right to avoid the lake.

But in a state of sheer panic, the woman frantically responds: “I can’t. I’m scared. I can’t stop!”

The footage shows the woman’s car, with her flashing lights, continue to dart down the road – thankfully with no other vehicles around.

Responding officers caught up with her car to attempt to save the woman and her unborn child.

As per the announcement on social media by the Sheriff’s Office, the deputies present at the location were worried and concluded that it was dangerous for the woman and her vehicle to continue driving on the street.

They therefore orchestrated what’s called a rolling road block.

An officer spotted the woman struggling with a malfunctioning brake system as she was driving recklessly. To prevent a potentially disastrous situation, the officer maneuvered their patrol car in front of the woman’s vehicle, allowing it to gently collide with the rear bumper of their vehicle.

The deputy then applied his brake, allowing both vehicles to slow down until they came to a full stop.

No injuries were reported but an ambulance crew checked over the pregnant woman out of caution.

The Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle suffered no damage and very minor damage occurred to the already-broken runaway car.

It’s unclear as to why the brakes on the woman’s car malfunctioned and led to the dangerous chase.

In a statement on Facebook, the Sheriff’s Office conveyed, “If the Deputy had not intervened promptly or had hesitated in executing this action, the driver and the vehicle would have ended up in the lake.”

More dashcam footage shows the moment a toddler runs onto a busy road in his nappy as a speeding car swerves to avoid him.

The tot stumbled onto the dark road – apparently trying to make his way across – before a woman nearby spotted him at the junction and sprinted over to scoop him up.

Dashcam footage from a driver at the scene recorded a woman’s chilling scream as she witnessed the terrifying near-miss.

She had her own little boy, aged seven, in the back of the car and said she felt “hysterical” as she prepared herself to “watch a child be crushed”.

The little boy, two-and-a-half years old, had wondered a fair way onto the road just outside Phoenix, Arizona, as huge 4X4’s hurtled past.

According to FOX 10 the traffic was moving at at least 45 miles per hour at the time of the incident on Sunday.
