Figure skater Elly Mattiuzzo tragically died at age 18 after a horrible car accident with her boyfriend.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the couple were driving a Fiat 500 on the road from Borgo Maggiore towards Castello di Murata around 9:30 pm.
A young figure skater and her boyfriend died in a horror car crash with two other cars in San Marino on Saturday night.

But then they fatally lost control of the car and got into oncoming traffic before crashing into a Volkswagen Golf.
Mattiuzzo and her boyfriend Daniele Volanti are said to have died “instantly” while a 19-year-old VW driver was injured, but her life is not in danger.

Mattiuzzo is believed to have moved from Milan to San Marino to live with her father and, like her boyfriend, she went to high school in Riccione.
In Milan she performed with the synchronized figure skating group ‘Hot Shivers’ and participated in the 2019 World Junior Championships in Neuchâtel.

Statement
Mattiuzzo was known as a fantastic young figure skater, having competed in the 2019 World Junior Championships in Switzerland.
He left his school in the town of Riccione, near San Marino on the Italian coast where he met Volanti, just two years before his death.
After leaving school at 16, Mattiuzzo moved to Milan to live with members of his family and continued to practice figure skating.
During his stay in Milan, Mattiuzzo began performing with a synchronized figure skating group, the ‘Hot Shivers’, and became a key figure in the group.
‘Hot Shivers’ issued a statement to the media, expressing their grief over the loss of Mattiuzzo.
We have good memories of her, she was a girl who loved to be with her friends and had a great relationship with them, which is what our team is based on.

Accident
Daniele Volanti was killed instantly alongside his girlfriend Mattiuzzo when his Fiat 500 was hit by several cars on Saturday night.
Italian police are carrying out reconstructions of the accident on the Sottomontana road, which is known to be the site of several accidents, to try to find out exactly what happened.
However, the young couple are believed to have crashed the Fiat 500 after they veered into the opposite lane and collided with the railing.
They were then hit by two cars in oncoming traffic: a Volkswagen Golf driven by a 19-year-old man from San Marino and a BMW driven by another Sammarinese.
The young couple were found dead at the scene by emergency services, who pulled them out of the twisted metal of their Fiat to take them to hospital to no avail.
The driver of the VW Golf suffered minor injuries and was also taken to hospital, while the BMW driver was unharmed from the accident.
