Ohio police reportedly discovered a body on Monday amid their ongoing search for a 13-year-old girl who vanished last week.
A recent report by The Toledo Blade stated that a tip was crucial in leading investigators to discover an unidentified body in an abandoned, fire-damaged residence. While there is currently no confirmation that the body belongs to Keimani Latigue, authorities have revealed that her father, Darnell Jones, 33, is being sought for child abduction charges.
However, Latigue’s grandmother told KTOL that the body is hers.
As per The Toledo Blade, Latigue’s mother, residing in Cleveland, informed officials that Jones was the last person known to have seen their daughter. Latigue’s grandmother mentioned that the girl was absent from school on Tuesday, March 18 – which was highly unusual for her – and her phone was unreachable, going directly to voicemail.
In an interview with WTVG, Jones claimed that he saw Latigue for the last time on Sunday, March 16, after she expressed fear about being alone at home. Police have stated that Jones has provided conflicting reports about his interactions with his daughter and her whereabouts.
Latigue reportedly lives alone with her grandmother. The grandmother told WTTG that she came home on Monday, March 17, to a home in disarray. She also claimed the gas was on and Latigue’s glasses and keys were in the home.
“Other than her and I, it’s just two dogs in the house. So, who cut it on? So that was kind of suspicious. Her glasses in her underclothes were by the couch in the front. Her pajamas were on the dining room floor,” she said.
Toledo police confirmed to WTOL that Jones’ child abduction charges specifically pertain to Latigue. He remains unaccounted for.
