Four bodies were discovered while police were conducting a requested welfare check.
Four individuals were discovered with gunshot wounds at a residence on Cheyenne Trails in West Greenwich, Rhode Island, during a welfare check conducted by West Greenwich Police, as reported by the Providence Journal.
Chief Richard Ramsay assured the public, stating that there is no ongoing threat to the community because the shootings seemed to be contained within an “isolated incident.”
NBC10 spoke to a neighbor who said that a family of four lived at that residence: a mother, father, and two children.
Brendan Schuster shared his experience with NBC10, saying, “I woke up around 11 o’clock to cops banging on my door. I was very confused, very startled. Seeing all this now, I just hope everyone’s okay.”
Another neighbor mentioned to NBC10 that the family kept to themselves.
“The family in the house was really quiet,” the neighbor said. “They always stuck to themselves.”
Once the Office of the State Medical Examiner’s investigation is complete next week, the police will have more information to share. For now, Ramsay had no further comments.
“I’ve been in law enforcement for 35 years. This is probably one of the worst things I’ve had to deal with. In a community like ours, you really don’t expect it, but these things do happen, and we’re going to do our best to determine what happened,” West Greenwich Police Chief Richard Ramsay said.
The names of the deceased have not yet been released.
