A HIGH schooler has been killed and a second wounded after a student pulled out a gun and opened fire in their cafeteria, cops have said.

Cops described the shooter as a 17-year-old male student.

Both of the victims were female students.

One of the victims died in hospital, according to police, while the other is still being treated.

Her condition is unknown.

The shooter died after shooting himself in the head.

The Metro Nashville Police Department said the situation is under control after placing the school on lockdown.

The terrifying incident occurred inside the school cafeteria just after 11 am local time, WKRN reports.

Video shared on Instagram reportedly captures the moment the shooter turns the gun on himself.

In the short clip, taken in a school cafeteria, a gunshot is heard before someone yells, “Oh s**t!”

Another person shouts out, “He shot himself!”

Further chilling footage shows someone being taken into an ambulance on a stretcher outside the school while a woman is heard screaming.

It isn’t known whether the person on the stretcher was a victim or the perpetrator.

In a statement, Metro Nashville Public Schools has said police are on the scene.

“Antioch High School is on a lockdown due to shots being fired inside the school building,” the statement reads.

“Metro Police are on the scene. The person responsible for shooting is no longer a threat.

“We will be gathering students in the auditorium and will provide information on reunification as soon as possible.

“This is an active crime scene and investigation. We will work with the MNPD to provide further updates as they become available.”

No motive has yet been given for the shooting.

Pictures from the scene show at least one ambulance outside the school in the southeastern neighborhood of Nashville.

Police have diverted traffic away from the school and a reunification site for parents of students has been set up nearby.

Parents have taken to social media to try and find out what happened.

“Attempting to rebuild my relationship with my son,” shared a user on X platform. “I managed to find my daughter as she dashed out of the school and into the student parking lot. She witnessed the entire incident.”

They added, “The shooter shot himself in the head right in front of my daughter.”

Following the shooting incident, House Democratic Caucus Chairman John Rey Clemmons, from the district encompassing Antioch, expressed his grief over the “indescribable tragedy.”

Clemmons stated, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the children who are said to have been wounded and all the students at Antioch High School whose lives have been irrevocably changed today.

“Our efforts will not stop with prayers – we will continue to fight for common sense gun safety solutions that protect our children and communities from gun violence.”

Antioch High School has about 2,000 students and has been around since 1932.

In 2018, the student body made national news for walking out in protest of gun violence and stomping on an American flag.

The attack comes less than two years after a horrific mass shooting in Nashville left six people dead including three children.

Female former student Audrey Hale, 28, stormed the Catholic private elementary school armed with two assault-type rifles and a handgun.

The three students killed at The Covenant School were just nine years old.
