‘WWHL’: Everything Craig Conover Said About His Breakup With Paige DeSorbo In His First Televised Interview Since Their Split

Craig Conover and Paige DeSorbo‘s split after three years of dating has been the talk of the Bravo universe. With DeSorbo clearing up some rumors on her Giggly Squad podcast earlier this week, fans have been eagerly awaiting Conover’s side of the story. And on Thursday night’s (Feb. 6) episode of Watch What Happens Live, he gave it to them.

The Southern Charm star has been rather quiet about the breakup, aside from a positive message about moving on that he posted to his Instagram page. DeSorbo announced their split on the Dec. 30 episode of her podcast — and shut down cheating rumors on the Feb. 3 episode.

In his first televised interview since they parted ways, Conover told host Andy Cohen a shocking amount of information, from his plan to move to New York City, to how DeSorbo called it quits with him. Keep reading for everything Conover said about the breakup.

Conover said he’s still “working through” his breakup, and while he was obviously “very sad,” he’s also “getting excited for the future as much as [he] can.” He said he’s going through the stages of grief, noting that he’s already worked through denial, bargaining, depression, and anger. He’s also “a much better version” of himself now than he was when he first met DeSorbo — and is proud that he didn’t go back to drinking alcohol after their split.

Conover also said he finally got on Raya “after a certain stage and stuff that I found out.” While he hopped on the dating app for “validation,” he said it “didn’t feel as good as [he] thought.”

DeSorbo claimed on her podcast that they broke up Thanksgiving weekend and that Conover proceeded to act as if they were still together when he did Southern Charm press the following week.

According to Conover, he spent Thanksgiving with her family — and DeSorbo even talked about their future wedding in her mom’s kitchen that same day. He also claimed that she asked him to book a trip to Europe for New Year’s two weeks before their breakup, which he ended up losing “a lot of money” on.

As for the actual breakup, Conover said DeSorbo called him after Thanksgiving when he was in Toronto to end their relationship. Still, he stayed in her New York City apartment the entire next week while he was doing press. While DeSorbo was out of town, Conover said they were still FaceTiming frequently and she was allegedly telling him that she missed him.

“I had no reason to think she was serious [about the breakup]. I thought she was just having a bad night or a breakdown,” he said, before adding, “When she called and broke up with me, the last thing I was gonna do when I was being interviewed was be like, ‘By the way, I think Paige broke up with me.’ I don’t know. I guess I was still processing it.”

It wasn’t until a week after that initial phone call that they got to talk in person and make the breakup official. “She was like, ‘Look, I love you, but I love myself more and I have to go do this and find myself,’” Conover explained.

For the three years that they had been together, Conover’s home base remained in Charleston, while DeSorbo’s was in New York City. However, Conover revealed that he had plans to move to New York prior to their split.

“We were planning our future together,” he said. “We never fought. I was moving to New York.”

On her podcast, DeSorbo promised listeners that she didn’t “blindside” Conover by breaking up with him right before the holidays, which he disagreed with. Conover also said she

“lied” by claiming the breakup was mutual.

“I didn’t tell her what to say. I got a text saying, ‘I’m announcing it on my podcast.’ And then she said it was mutual, which it wasn’t. I didn’t know about it. She called me and told me,” Conover said, noting that he also “never” asked to pretend as though they were still together while he was doing press. He just “didn’t think it was real.”

Conover claimed Paige “upset” a lot of their mutual friends by saying he was behaving like a single person when he was in Aspen over Christmas. Conover clarified that DeSorbo was invited on the trip, during which he only “talked about the breakup because [he] couldn’t believe it was happening.”

Conover did not feel the need to shut down rumors claiming DeSorbo cheated on him, despite her Summer House co-stars Amanda Batula and Kyle Cooke calling him out for not doing so.

“I’m the ex-boyfriend now, moving on with my life,” Conover said. “I’m not gonna get sucked in the mud with them. Her cast commenting on how I’m grieving — I’m sorry, I’m not reading Reddit everyday and getting on there and defending her. Like, I never said you cheated. So, I’m not a part of this.”

Conover also wanted nothing to do with the rumors that DeSorbo had moved on with a new guy — something she denied on her podcast.

“I think it’s fair for me to say it’s none of my business what she does anymore,” he said. “I wasn’t a part of any of the rumors. I haven’t said a word. My favorite person in the universe basically became a lesson all of a sudden and how I’ve been grieving, I think, is good. I haven’t said a word.”

Patricia Altschul claimed on WWHL that DeSorbo was “mean” to Conover. However, he believed that DeSorbo “played it up” for TV. In fact, he said they had an “awesome relationship” and praised his ex-girlfriend for being “nothing but supportive.”

Conover wants anyone in a long-distance relationship to know that love is enough.

“If two people love each other, you’ll make it work,” he said. “We didn’t want different things, she just wanted other people and that’s fine. She didn’t want those things with me anymore. And I’m not mad at her for that. But I don’t like this ‘love isn’t enough’ thing because you’ll make it work.

Watch What Happens Live airs Sunday through Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET on Bravo. New episodes are available to stream the next day on Peacock.
