After rising to fame as a contestant on “The X Factor,” Cher Lloyd, now 31, has come forward with disturbing revelations about her treatment by her record label at the beginning of her music career following her stint on Simon Cowell’s talent show.
Lloyd has accused her former record label of pressuring her into trying to boost album sales by encouraging her to romantically pursue a young Justin Bieber, a suggestion she found highly inappropriate and distressing.
Recalling the distressing experience on the podcast “We Need To Talk” hosted by Paul Brunson, Lloyd shared how she was directed to attend clubs in search of Bieber and engage with him, despite being a teenager and already married at the time.
Despite her requests for financial backing to promote her album, Lloyd asserts that she was turned down. “I was informed that I wasn’t deemed worthy of investment and that they preferred to use me to connect with a celebrity,” she stated.
Lloyd’s claims highlight the exploitative tactics employed by certain record labels. She also mentioned that her management team discouraged her from marrying her husband, Craig Monk, indicating they would go to great lengths to prevent the marriage.
“Cher Lloyd reveals the reality of trying to launch in the US. The only option her record label gave her was to seduce Justin Bieber in the club.
With her marriage on the horizon, she had to keep her true love’s desire a secret in order to keep the label’s interest.” pic.twitter.com/fJlMBOYEhf

In addition to her challenges with the record label, Lloyd opened up about her battle with postnatal depression following the birth of her second daughter, Eliza, in 2023. She described experiencing distressing thoughts of vehicles colliding with her baby, along with intense anxiety, insomnia, and a lack of appetite.
“Postnatal depression profoundly affected me,” Lloyd expressed. “It has led me to believe that I cannot envision having more children.”
Lloyd underscored the significance of seeking assistance for mental health issues, particularly after childbirth. She commended her general practitioner for their support during her healing process. “I felt lost and disconnected from myself,” Lloyd admitted. “However, I am now in a significantly improved mental state. I take pride in being a mother, despite it being the most challenging period of my life.”
